What are your thoughts on microchipping your dogs? Is it worth it? Sounds painful!

My dog is microchipped. She is very dramatic and will yelp and cry even when she is just worried, upset, or scared. She barely flinched during the injection and had no noticeable discomfort afterwards. It was obvious she felt it but did not give any indication of pain.
