potty training a rescue dog
We are potty training a pit bull puppy (9 mos) rescued from a state shelter. She is crate trained and we keep her leashed to us in the house when not in the crate. We are establishing regular schedules for feeding and going out. However every time we think she’s finally learned she finds the 5 minutes we aren’t watching her to pee in the house! Does anyone have any suggestions?

We are going through the exact situation, 9 month old pittbull and she does same thing. Was told to be persistent and continue the same routine, and use lots of patience. If someone has additional tips please reply.

Thanks augie11jayden@gmail.com for letting me know I’m not the only one going through this! We had a good run of 20 days then she pottied in the house. We did give more freedom but obviously it was too soon. She’s 10 1/2 months now and is learning other commands quite well. So frustrating! I will take your learning and continue the same procedures.

I adopted an 8 year old Bichon Frise who has definite toilet training issues. We believe she was a breeder in a puppy mill who was abandoned (my vets and other people I have talked with about this). She will go outdoors and can hold it, but will sneak a leak if she thinks she isn't being seen. I have her wearing diapers all the time. She will bark incessantly if left in her crate. And keeping her on the lead all the time is very difficult.
