Poorly treated dogs
Last night we found two dogs walking down our road, they seemed like pitbull cross boxers. We managed to get them into our yard and gave them some water and food - they were starving and very timid. They slept in our garage but barked throughout the night. We posted on Facebook and managed to find out that the owner lived a block away. We got the dogs in the car and drove to his house to drop them off. The dogs didn't greet him at all and didn't seem happy to be home, the one even had its tail between its legs... It was heartbreaking. After we left I felt really uneasy about the situation and suggested that we call animal rescue to come and investigate the situation - my partner thinks that animal rescue would see that they have food and a place to sleep and wouldn't intervene... What are your thoughts on this situation?

To be honest, it's understandable that you felt uneasy and concerned for the welfare of the dogs. While the dogs had food and shelter, their behavior and the fact that they didn't seem happy to be home could be indications of underlying issues. Contacting animal rescue or your local animal welfare organization would be a responsible step to take. They can assess the situation and determine if there are any concerns regarding the dogs' well-being, living conditions, or potential neglect. It's better to be on the side of caution and let professionals investigate further to ensure the dogs are in a safe and suitable environment.

Thanks for these comments. If only there were more places that could look after dogs like this. It breaks my heart that people would choose to have dogs as pets and not incorporate them into the family. Let's hope that they acted that way because they thought they would be in trouble. I'll drive past throughout the week to see if they seem okay, else I might try to call someone to investigate. Thanks, everyone
