How to help your dog calm down for a bath

How do you help the anxiety with bath time? My dog is terrified and I’m really struggling with bathing her.

Thanks for the tips, I will incorporate some of your ideas to try and make bath time an easier experience for her!

Well, helping a dog with bath time anxiety requires patience and a gradual approach. Start by creating a calm and positive environment in the bathing area. Introduce your dog to the bathing area gradually, allowing them to explore and get comfortable with the space. You can also use treats and praise to associate positive experiences with the bathing area. Gradually introduce water by using a spray bottle or wet cloth instead of immersing them directly. Use a gentle, pet-friendly shampoo and be mindful of water temperature. Consider using calming techniques such as playing soothing music or using calming sprays designed for dogs. If your dog's anxiety persists, consult with a professional dog trainer or behaviorist who can provide personalized guidance and techniques to help your dog overcome their fear of bath time.

I make sure to make the bathing experience as pleasant as possible ( to the extent that we actually bath our dog in the bath!). I would make sure the water was warm ( she would get anxious if I kept the plugin as the water started to rise) so I would use the extended shower head. I would talk to her lovingly, give her treats and massage her while I did it. She hated when I would pour water over her head so I would use a face cloth to wash her head. When the bath was finished she would be very happy with herself and run around with a big smile on her face
