A dog’s coat

Why are some dog's coats shiny and some are not? Is it a breed thing?

April Rogers

Thanks I just see allt of dogs and always wondered why some are so shiny and some aren't

Some breeds do have shinier coats than others. Bathing and grooming can help their coats look cleaner and shiny as well. But I believe the #1 thing that helps their coats look their best is a good quality food.

A dog's coat can become dull or shiny due to a variety of factors such as genetics, nutrition, grooming, and overall health. Breeds with smooth, short coats tend to have naturally shinier coats compared to breeds with long, thick, or curly coats. However, providing your dog with a balanced and nutritious diet, regular grooming to remove dead hair and dirt, and keeping them healthy through regular exercise and visits to the vet can all contribute to a shiny and healthy coat regardless of the breed.
