Hey guys! How do you feel about adopting an older dog? I'm always scared of the vet bills and obviously inevitable heartbreak down the line

I am not in a position to rescue a dog currently as I have young children. But when the time comes and my children are grown up, I'm definitely going to adopt an older dog. I always find it super sad that the older dogs are left until last.

I wouldn't hesitate to adopt an older dog if I didn't have other pets. I may not know their training, their history, the quirks which is fine if I didn't already have a responsibility to care for and protect my other pets. I think it is awesome to be the one that can be sure to give a senior pet the love and attention they've always deserved, even if they are in their final years of life. Yes, it will be heartbreaking when they go but I find it more heartbreaking to think of them alone with nobody to love them.

I would adopt an older dog as long as there was no history of aggression. With having kids this would be my biggest concern.
